In September 2017, Hurricane Irma was approaching South Florida the first day of the fall semester, and I was in the evacuation zone. Upon my return after a week, there was much clean up, and I was influenced to design a book on coastal flooding. My aim was to use type to communicate the effects of massive storms on coastal communities, (i.e. water is no longer crystal blue, it’s dark and muddy and it seeps over and under everything; Erosion is inevitable and flooding causes things to be displaced).
